“I
Have a Dream" Festival scheduled
TAMPA, Fla. (March 1, 2004) – The 9th
annual “I Have a Dream” Festival is scheduled for Saturday, March 13, from 10
a.m. to 6 p.m. at Al Lopez Park on Himes Avenue.
The event, held to commemorate the
Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.’s legacy, is free and open to the public.
The slate of activities includes
food, entertainment, children’s activities, health screenings, voter education
and, back by popular demand, Passion Production’s Fashion Show, according to
Marvin Knight, spokesman for the Positive Image Committee of Tampa, which is
sponsoring the event.
“Every year, this event seems to get
bigger and better and we think this year will be no exception,” Knight said. “We
are looking forward to a lot of people coming out and having a good time.”
Hillsborough County Tax Collector
Doug Belden and Sybil K. Andrews Wells, publisher of the Florida
Sentinel-Bulletin, are honorary chairpersons of this year’s event.
“I feel honored to have been chosen
and look forward to honoring the work of Dr. King,” Belden said. “I have always
encouraged diversity in my office and in the community and this is an excellent
chance for the community to come together for a good cause.”
Al Lopez Park is located at 4810 N.
Himes Ave., which is about two blocks’ north of Raymond James Stadium.
