Driver License Information

Effective January 1, 2010

Due to the Real ID Act, the State of Florida passed the following changes during the 2008 Florida Legislative Session.

Renewal Period Changes:

For U.S. Citizens and Immigrants with Permanent Legal Presence

• Class E driver licenses for customers under age 80 will be valid for 8 years. Class E licenses for customers 80 and older will be valid for 6 years.

• Commercial driver licenses (CDL), Class A, B, or C, will be valid for 8 years except for customers 80 and older. Licenses with a hazardous material endorsement will be valid for 4 years.

• ID cards for children 5 through 14 years of age will be valid for 4 years. ID cards for customers 15 and older will be valid for 8 years.

  NOTE: Proof of citizenship or legal presence will be required for all license issuances. Please come prepared to present one of the approved identification documents as proof of citizenship or legal presence. 

  When necessary original or certified copies of marriage certificates, court orders, or divorce decrees must be provided to tie the name on the primary identification to the name the customer would like to place on the driver license or identification card.

New Documentation Requirements:

• You must present proof of your social security number which includes:

• Social Security Card

• W-2 Form

• Pay Check

• SSA-1099

• Any 1099

*Social security number must be reflected in its entirety.

• All passports, permanent resident cards, and employment authorization cards presented as proof of identification or legal presence must be valid. Expired documents will not be accepted.

• Driver licenses or identification cards are no longer acceptable as primary identification.  All customers must present two proofs of residential address
